Making History: Introducing the Control Pro 3D, our first Bib Shorts with 3D printed chamois and a brand-new ergonomic concept. Made in NYC.
Our world-first bib shorts with 3D-printed chamois provide cyclists with absolute comfort and maximum freedom of movement. Made in NYC, the Control 3D Cycling Bib Shorts feature a unique ergonomic pattern and revolutionary 3D-printed chamois pad inserts.
Revolutionizing cycling bib-shorts with 3D chamois represents our commitment to supporting athletes on their journeys to achieve their cycling goals. For too long, the most focused athletes have been inhibited from achieving their goals due to limited access to the industry’s most innovative and advanced materials in cycling apparel.
Our focus has always relied on seeking the most advanced materials and technologies while applying production methods, prioritizing sustainability, and supporting fellow entrepreneurs, engineers, and artisans within our community.
As an independent brand helmed by cyclists, we fully understand what it takes to set and attempt to achieve ambitious riding goals. From pursuing a distance challenge to meeting a time threshold in an event, winning a race, losing weight, or raising your fitness level, we wake up every morning with the mission to develop the tools to help you achieve your goals. If you strive to be the best version of yourself as a cyclist, you deserve the best gear possible.
A few years back, we set ourselves the goal of offering cyclists a level of comfort and performance that has never been achieved on a bike before. To achieve this goal, we started by developing a unique pattern for a highly advanced pair of cycling bib shorts at our design studio and atelier in Midtown Manhattan and producing the bib shorts from start to finish in NYC. The main intention of developing these cycling bib shorts was to emphasize comfort by distinguishing between your pedal stroke's static and dynamic aspects while focusing on simplicity and a reduced number of sewn pieces.
The pattern for our new Control 3D Cycling Bib Shorts centered around two focal points: to keep the rider’s sit bones and lumbar as supported and static as possible while offering maximum freedom of movement for the legs.
To ensure that we can offer riders maximum comfort, we began experimenting with hundreds of cycling chamois pads produced over the years by various makers. Chamois pads for cycling come in all shapes and sizes, often featuring different materials and design approaches. Performance depends on fabric choice, construction method, foam density, thickness, etc. There are two main types of chamois pad construction: thermo-molded and hand-stitched.
A thermo-molded chamois consists primarily of foam and fabric fused using a heat press. While this method is cost-effective, the pressure applied by the mold limits the density level, and the fusing glue compromises breathability.
Although hand-stitched chamois are more expensive due to their handmade nature, they can withstand a greater range of foam density, shaping, and thickness.
As we delved deeper into our research process, we began experimenting with 3D-printed inserts within the chamois to test their capabilities of further pinpointing densities and padding where it’s most needed. This initial process led us to approach our partners at Elastic Interface® in Italy and utilize their newly launched, patented N3X 3D printing technology. This new chamois technology offers unprecedented comfort, produces zero waste, and requires no glue throughout the production process.
The main technical fabric used in the Control 3D Bib Shorts features a luxurious hand feel with balanced compression for muscle support, an integrated leg gripper to reduce material, and SPF protection. The back of the bib shorts is embellished with a tone-on-tone RUBBER N’ ROAD NEW YORK insignia.
Combining the most cutting-edge chamois technology on the market with our unique anatomic bib shorts pattern and production methods in New York City’s Garment District, we have created a performance road cycling bib short of unparalleled comfort.
After many prototypes were completed at our Midtown Manhattan Design Studio and tested in Central Park and nearby Route 9W, our Control 3D Bib Shorts were produced entirely in New York’s Historic Garment District with Italian and Swiss fabrics. This is a testament to our commitment not only to supporting passionate athletes in achieving their goals but also to continuing to collaborate with our network of supply chain partners, spearheaded by multi-generational family-owned and women-owned businesses within our community.
