RWANDA
CHOCOLATE, ORANGE
- From The Barn Berlin -
Gitwe is a young washing station. High elevation, its proximity to Lake Kivu and nutritious soil offer great growing conditions. This coffee has a great mouthfeel and rich flavours with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, kumquat and orange peel - with a citric finish.

The infrastructure for the 800 farmers delivering cherries to Gitwe washing station is ideal. Rwanda Trading Company (RTC) was key in elevating specialty coffee qualities in Rwanda over the past ten years. Our export partner offers agronomy training, seedlings, techniques and finance to their coffee growers. RTC took over Gitwe in 2017 as a showcase for clean processing in Rwanda. Cherries delivered to Gitwe are sorted several times to remove any defective coffee cherries. The coffee is then placed on raised African beds at about 2cm of thickness where it is dried for up to 30 days with regular turning each hour and covering at night time.
